When you find yourself struggling re-assess your systems
The middle to late stages of a project can be the most difficult periods to stay motivated. You don’t have the excitement of the start of something new and you’re not on the finishing straight and nearly done. You’ve probably learned something that invalidated early assumptions and means you’ll need to do more work than initially thought. This is a good time to re-assess your systems and make sure you’re still using them and they’re still aligned with your goals.
Remember the aim of the systems are to be repeatable processes you do that get you closer and closer to your goal. You need to check they are actually doing that and adjust if necessary. Systems that worked well at the start of a project might not push you in the right direction in the middle or end. This isn’t a failure of the original system, it’s done its job, you can retire it and introduce a better system now.
Sometimes the system is fine but you haven’t been following it as diligently as you did at the start. Thinking about why can be useful. Are there things you could streamline that would make you follow it better. Do you need to change things up for a bit of variety?
Which current systems or processes do you find a drag? What could you do with them to improve things?
